The Challenge of Pumpkins

Pumpkins are delicious, but tough to tackle. Their thick skin and dense flesh make them tricky (and sometimes dangerous) without the right technique. Here’s how to prep them safely and efficiently.
1- Stabilize FIRST
Use a chef’s knife to cut off the top or bottom and create a flat, steady base. Place your pumpkin on a damp towel to prevent slipping
2 - Slice with Power & Control
For large cuts (halves, wedges), use your Viking chef’s knife. Don’t force it! Rock the blade and let the weight of the knife do the work.
3 - Detail work
For carving faces or removing seeds and stringy flesh, switch to a paring knife or utility knife. Keep motions small and controlled.
Knife Care Tip
Pumpkins are hard on blades. Wipe your knife clean often while cutting, and hone afterward to keep your edge razor-sharp. From chef’s knives to paring knives the right blade makes pumpkin season effortless.
